Math and dyscalculia evaluations

Math difficulty is as real as reading difficulty, and it is often missed. A math evaluation includes a cognitive assessment, the WIAT-4 mathematics subtests (with written computation completed on paper while proctored over video), and a brief reading rule-out, so we can tell a math-specific difficulty from a reading or attention problem. The same multi-informant rating scales used in reading evaluations are included.

Attention and executive functioning

Attention and executive-functioning concerns are screened in every reading and math evaluation, using rating scales completed by parents and teachers (and by the student when appropriate). Reading and math difficulty often occur alongside ADHD, so the report explains how each one affects the other and what to do about both.

Independent educational evaluations (IEEs)

An independent educational evaluation is an evaluation by a licensed psychologist who is not employed by the school district. Families may request an IEE when they disagree with the district's evaluation, sometimes at public expense. What every evaluation includes

• A testing session of under two hours, by telehealth
• Rating scales from parents, teachers, and the student when appropriate
• A clear written report within 10 business days
• A feedback session to walk you through the findings

Evaluation fees

• Reading / dyslexia evaluation: $2,825
• Math / dyscalculia evaluation: $3,125
• Combined reading and math evaluation: $4,025
• Records review with a brief written critique (no new testing): $750

Evaluations are self-pay. A superbill is available on request for possible out-of-network reimbursement from your insurer.
